Leadership Roane County Youth Program

Roane Youth Leadership serves the five Roane County High Schools. Selected Juniors/Seniors from each of the high schools participate in this program. The goals for this program include:

  • Teach leadership skills required to become responsible, effective, and trustworthy members of their community.
  • Provide an opportunity to apply these skills in a meaningful and positive manner with a focus on organization, communication, and creativity directed toward desired and measurable outcomes.
  • Create a program that develops future leaders, involves extended community members, and results a better quality of life for all.

The format of the program has varied over time. In 2011, the students attend a four day summer program held at the main campus of Roane State Community College in Harriman.  The students participate in classes and activities that increase their understanding, development, and use of leadership skills. At the conclusion of the program, the student participants from each of the five Roane County high schools presented a community service project they will complete during their senior year.
