Flag Day Celebration at Rockwood's Homecoming Park
Wednesday June 03, 2009
Rockwood, TN - On Sunday, June 14 Rockwood will host a celebration to recognize Flag Day from 12:30 to 4 pm in the downtown area. In conjunction with this national holiday will also fund-raiser for the Kidney Foundation as a way to celebrate and honor the late Beverly Stroh, Rockwood's dedicated advocate and economic development official.
"Beverly's sudden passing has left a void in Rockwood and throughout the county," Judy Wasson, of Rockwood 2000 said. "She didn't want any fuss made over her, but we know that she would have wanted us to celebrate her life by honoring the flag, having a good down-home get-together and by helping a good cause -- the National Kidney Foundation."
The afternoon will be filled with barbecue and hot dogs, gospel and bluegrass music, classic cars, a bake sale, a Cake Walk, Blue Bell ice cream, and of course, flags. The event will be held at Rockwood's Homecoming Park (corner of Rockwood Street and S. Front Street) and everyone is invited to attend.
"So bring the entire family and join your friends, neighbors, and community to celebrate our American heritage while also raising money for a good cause," Pam May, Roane Alliance Tourism and Marketing Manager said. "All the proceeds raised will go to the National Kidney Foundation in honor of Bev."
"Stroh was a driving force behind Rockwood's revitalization efforts and she will surely be missed by everyone who knew her," Leslie Henderson, President/CEO of The Roane Alliance said, "Though not a native of Roane County, no one cared more about this county and worked harder to make it succeed than Bev....but she especially loved Rockwood."
Stroh was the Tourism and Marketing Manager for the Roane Alliance, before she left to work for Rockwood as their economic development official. She was also a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant assigned to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
"To honor Beverly's military career, love of Rockwood, and her personal relationship with the National Kidney Foundation it is only appropriate then that during the Flag Day Celebration her life will be celebrated and money will be raised for such a good cause," Wassom said.
This event is sponsored by Rockwood 2000, The Roane Alliance, Rockwood Revitalization, City of Rockwood, Rockwood Business and Industrial Association, and the Rockwood Industrial Development Board. Bring lawn chairs as seating will be limited. For more information contact Rockwood 2000 at 776-0510 or visit their website at www.Rockwood2000.com.
