Tennessee’s Bass Federation Tournament Coming to Watts Bar Lake

Wednesday October 14, 2009

Kingston - The Tennessee Bass Federation's 2009 East Divisional Tournament will be held on Watts Bar Lake October 16-17 in Roane County.

Ron Riley, president of the federation, said his members had continually requested Watts Bar Lake due to its reputation for excellent bass fishing.  The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency's (TWRA) chief reservoir biologist, Tim Churchill, agrees, saying that Watts Bar ranks as one of the top bass lakes in the state.

Riley approached The Roane Alliance about hosting the annual event on Watts Bar Lake earlier this year. Membership in the Bass Federation is required in order to compete in their tournaments held across the country.  Their "grass-roots organization of anglers is dedicated to the future of bass fishing,  promoting catch-and-release, encouraging community involvement, lobbing for and against proposed legislation, introducing youth to fishing and the pure enjoyment of fishing for...bass," according to the official website for the Tennessee Bass Federation: www.tnbass.com.

"We hope everyone will come out and support the fisherman during the tournament," says Pam May, Manager of Tourism & Marketing for The Roane Alliance.  "It should be a beautiful fall weekend -- perfect for a fishing tournament." All boats will launch from Tom Fuller Memorial Park in Rockwood both days. Weigh-ins will also be held at the park each day.

One of the south's largest lakes, Watts Bar Lake extends over 72 miles and provides over 39,000 acres of recreational activities.  Roane County has more than 700 shoreline miles and offers world class fishing, boating, swimming, waterside dining, and lakeside camping and resorts.
