Roane Chamber Kicks Off Annual "Shop Roane First" Holiday Campaign

Tuesday November 24, 2009

Kingston, TN. - The Roane County Chamber of Commerce has kicked off their annual Holiday "Shop Roane First" campaign.  The initiative is designed to encourage people to shop locally this holiday season.

"Look to Chamber members first, Roane County next and only then go outside the County if you need to for your shopping," Chamber Membership Services Manager Maggie Wisden said.  "Now more than ever, our Chamber members and our local businesses need your support.  Remember, we all win when we shop locally first."

Buying local can enrich the community economy. Each time money is spent at a locally-owned business, the tax stays in Roane County to support local resources such as schools, parks, police and fire...and much more.

According to the American Independent Business Alliance, $45 out of every $100 spent locally remains in the community.  Local owners, typically having invested much of their life savings in their businesses, have a natural interest in the community's long-term health. Also, community-based businesses are essential to charitable endeavors; their owners frequently serve on local boards and support numerous causes.

The holiday season is a good time to remind people of the need to support local businesses.  In order to encourage this, the Chamber is again teaming up with Roane County News to host the 2009 Annual Shopping Spree. This annual event provides a $500 holiday shopping spree for a lucky individual and reminds shoppers to "Shop Roane First."  The prize money is to be spent in the participating businesses.

This year, there are 33 businesses in Roane County that have chosen to participate in the 2009 Chamber Shopping Spree.  Signs and boxes are placed in the business, and customers, patrons and clients are invited to register for the drawing.  The winner will be drawn at The Roane Alliance' Annual Christmas Open House on December 15.  You do not need to be present to win.
