Roane County To Be Home of Volkswagen's New Southeastern Regional Distribution Center
Roane County officials joined with Volkswagen officials today to announce a $40 million 400,000-square-foot warehouse/distribution center project
in the Roane Regional Business and Technology Park.
The Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA) facility will be built on 54.6 acres at the main entrance to Roane Regional along I-40 at Industrial Park Road exit (exit #362). The facility is slated to start distributing domestic auto parts for the Chattanooga-made Passat as well as other Volkswagen and Audi vehicles by early 2013. The construction will be built to accommodate any potential future expansion up to 600,000 square feet. The facility will employ at minimum 45 people and is expected to have an annual payroll of more than $3 million.

The Roane Alliance Releases 2011 Annual Report
The Roane Alliance released their 2011 annual report, showing that Roane County continued to be cushioned from the worst of the economic downturn with "a whole lot to be proud of and plenty to be thankful for."
The report shows an economic snapshot of Roane County, with a full range of information about programs, along with charts, photos and lots of interesting data. Among some of the positive indicators included in the report:
- Per capita income growth continued to increase at a healthy rate in Roane County in relation to other counties in the state, and especially compared to the state's and the nation's rate which during the same time showed decreases of some 2.5%;
- Roane County's unemployment rate continued to be among the lowest in the state throughout the year;
- Four new retailers (Goody's, Big Lots, Tractor Supply and Little Caesars) opened their doors.

Roane Alliance Hosts Annual Legislative Breakfast
The Roane Alliance and the Roane County Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee hosted their annual legislative breakfast yesterday morning for Chamber and Alliance board members and supporters to discuss issues with State Senator Ken Yager and State Representative Julia Hurley.
This popular event provides an informal discussion with the legislative delegation as they head off to begin their legislative session in Nashville. The Chamber's 2012 Legislative Agenda was also distributed and discussed at the breakfast. One of the most controversial issues on the agenda and discussed at the event was the proposed redistricting that would carve out a portion of Rockwood in the house district.
The Chamber took a strong position several weeks ago against any redistricting that would split Roane County in all Federal Congressional and State Senate and House legislative districts. Rep. Hurley said she had communicated that opposition to the redistricting committee and would continue to do so.
The complete 2012 Legislative Agenda is now available on the Chamber's website. The press release can also be viewed in its entirety on the Roane Alliance Media page.
